PORTRAIT BUST OF FREDERICK AUGUSTUS I, KING OF SAXONY
Meissen, ca. 1806-14.
Until 1806 as Frederick Augustus III, Elector of Saxony, wearing an ermine-lined purple coat, a decoration star on the right side and a golden lion around his neck. On a fluted faux-marble base with gilt leaf wreaths. Underglaze blue sword mark and star.

Frederick Augustus I Joseph Maria Anton Johann Nepomuk Aloys Xaver "the Just" (1750-1827) was Elector Frederick Augustus III from 1763 and first King of Saxony from 1806 until his death. He was elected King of Poland in 1791. On 20 December 1806, Frederick Augustus was proclaimed King of Saxony. Following the Peace of Tilsit, which Frederick William III of Prussia and Tsar Alexander I of Russia concluded with Napoleon in July 1807, Frederick Augustus was also appointed as Duke of Warsaw.
