ALBUM WITH WARRIOR PRINTS (MUSHA-E) BY UTAGAWA KUNIYOSHI (1797–1861).
Japan, mid 19th c. Oban tate-e, 36 × 25 cm.
Album of 46 woodblock prints from the Series 'Taiheiki eiyûden' (Heroic Stories from the Taiheiki Epic) and 14 sheets from the Series 'Meiko hyaku yûden' (Legends of a Hundred Heroes of High Renown), depicting historical warriors. The former signed 'Ichyûsai Kuniyoshi ga' with paulownia seal, publisher Yamamotoya Heikichi (Eikyûdô) and censor's seals, the latter signed 'Ichiyûsai Kuniyoshi ga' or 'Chôôrô Kuniyoshi ga', publisher Izumiya Ichibei (Kansendô) and censor's seals. Very minor traces of age and wear.
