A WOOD FIGURE OF BODHIDHARMA (DARUMA DAISHI).
Japan, 19th c. Height 30.5 cm.
Constructed in visible yosegi technique, the eyes are inlaid. Plain depiction of the patriarch of Zen Buddhism resting in a seated position, but not meditating, as the eyes are open. Slight signs of age.
Provenance: Old Swiss private collection from Southern Switzerland.
