A SEATED LACQUER FIGURE OF DAINICHI NYORAI.
Japan, 18/19th c. Height 75 cm, figure 42 cm.
Wood with gold and black lacquer, the eyes inlaid. The Buddha with the hair set in a high topknot is shown in a less common form known as the Taizokai (Womb World) Dainichi, with both hands in the lap in the hokkai jôin (meditation mudra of the Dharma-realm). Minor cracks.
