IVORY MEDALLION OF ELEONORE ERDMUTHE LUISE VON BRANDENBURG-ANSBACH
Germany, late 19th century. Copy after Jean Cavalier (active 1680-1707).
Round ivory medallion carved in relief. Bust portrait of Eleonore Erdmuthe Luise of Brandenburg-Ansbach (1662-1696) to the right. Circumferential inscription ELEONORE ERDM LOVY MARCH BRAND. Pierced at the top.

Eleonore Erdmuthe Luise von Sachsen-Eisenach, Countess of Saxony and later Margravine of Brandenburg-Ansbach, was born on 13 April 1662 and died on 9 September 1696. She had been married to Johann Friedrich von Brandenburg-Ansbach (born 8 October 1654, died 22 March 1686) since 1681. An almost identical ivory medallion, but with a smaller diameter, by Jean Cavalier can be found in the Coin Cabinet of the Berlin State Collections (Inv. No. 18203775).
