TWO PLATES WITH "GOTZKOWSKY" RELIEF DECORATION

Meissen, ca. 1760 and 19th century.
Undulated rim with flowering branches and a wreath of flowers in relief, with flower bouquets in between. Gold lattice border. Underglaze blue sword marks, impressed mark IS.
D 25 cm.

Provenance:
- Collection Dr. Siegfried Ducret, Zurich.
- By succession to Rosmarie Schmidt-Ducret, Binningen, estate.

The "Gotzkowsky" decoration was designed in 1741 by Johann Friedrich Eberlein (1695-1749) for a service commissioned for the Berlin merchant, Johann Ernst Gotzkowsky. The relief was also used on later services, for example with the coat-of-arms of Paris de Montmartel and Béthune, and with the coat-of-arms of Saint Andrew and the green Watteau service (den Blaauwen, Meissen porcelain in the Rijksmuseum, 2000, p. 342).
