TWO-PIECE CUTLERY SET
Italy, probably Florence, ca. 1500(?). The blade and fork probably French, ca. 1600.
Edged handles with niello decoration, the top and bottom decorated with a stylized trophy and an empty coat of arms cartouche, the narrow sides with a stylized leaf fillet. The gilt bronze handle caps shaped like capitals decorated with flowers in relief. Stepped gilt bronze collar. Iron blade with center tip, the base of the blade bolster carved with acanthus leaf and gilt. The blade engraved with leaf tendrils and gilt. Smith's mark. The fork bolster matches that of the knife, fork tip with two tines.
L knife 21.7 cm, fork 20 cm.
Gilding later and rubbed, blade with traces of corrosion, handles with minor wear to the edges as well as scratched and with slight dents. The handle partially reworked or modified.

Vienna, 1912. p. 92, fig. 79/80).
