A LOT OF 3 WROUGHT IRON AND BRASS CALLIPERS, possibly France or England, circa 1800. Flattened arms with rich etch decoration in the shape of flowers and leaves. Lot consisting of: Callipers with S-shaped arms hinged at their centre with rose decorated joint. Instrument with pincer-shaped arms hinged at the end with rosette joint. the third pair of callipers consists of pincer-shaped arms at one and straight arms at the other side hinged by a brass joint. The opening can be regulated by a crossbar with screw. Provenance: Roussel Collection (see auction at the Hotel Drouot, Paris, March 13-15 1911), Collection Jules Strauss, exhibition "made in iron" in Houston, Texas in 1966 (in which they were catalogued as 17th c. French callipers of the Nicolas Landau Collection).

Schmiedeeisen und Messing. Die flachen Schenkel sind mit Ätzdekor in Form von Blumen und Blattwerk reich verziert. Bestand: Greifzirkel aus 2 S-förmigen Schenkeln, welche sich um ein rundes mittiges Scharnier bewegen. Zirkel aus 2 gebogten, zangenförmigen Schenkeln, welche durch ein rundes Scharnier verbunden sind. Der dritte Taster eignet sich für die Messung sowohl von Innen- wie auch Aussenmassen und besteht aus 2 mittig durch Scharnier verbundenen Schenkeln, welche auf der einen Seite gerade und auf der anderen gebogen sind. Die Öffnung des Tasters kann mittels einer Leiste mit Schraube fixiert werden. Wohl Werkzeuge eines Instrumentenbauers.


Provenienz: Sammlung Roussel (vgl. Auktion im Hotel Drouot, Paris, 13.-15. 3. 1911), Sammlung Jules Strauss, Ausstellung "made in iron" in Houston, Texas 1966 (im Katalog dieser Ausstellung werden die Objekte als französische Zirkel des 17. Jh. aus der Sammlung Nicolas Landau beschrieben).
