"I love nature, because the clouds, rivers, flowers and mountains are examples of universal love. Flowers provide for a healthy environment." Kelani Fatai

"LOVE AND NATURE", a striking oil painting from 2021, is one of Kelani Fatai's favourite works. He uses each of his artworks to tell a story, which he brings to the canvas through colours and lines. These stories are intended to inspire, encourage and, as with this work, highlight the strengths of black women. This graceful portrait shows Fatai's personal muse, a woman he cherishes and admires above all else. This beautiful, dainty woman wears an elegant navy-blue dress, sparkling earrings and luxurious finger rings and carries a striking red handbag that immediately catches the eye. The sky-blue background harmonises perfectly with the dark blue dress. His personal muse is not his only source of inspiration. Fatai, a Nigerian, also draws inspiration from nature, with flowers, which he loves more than anything, representing the unspoilt environment. Fatai deftly places beautiful white cherry blossoms on this outstanding painting, thereby expertly merging nature and muse in this experimental work.

With his work "ONENESS" from 2021, Kelani Fatai seeks to draw attention to the socio-political problems in his homeland, to encourage the viewer to reflect, and to express his standpoint and views on violence, terrorism and the resulting injustices. This great work was created at a time when power, terror, wickedness and jealousy are omnipresent in Nigeria. The artist portrays himself as an environmental storyteller in an eye-catching yellow suit with a worried sad expression, surrounded by his friends and neighbours, some in colourful clothes. He deliberately gives the portraits expressions of mistrust, dejection, pensiveness and powerlessness. Only the lady on the right, whose gaze wanders into the distance, is portrayed with a hopeful expression. Is she possibly the only one who looks forward to a promising future? Fatai has fully mastered the art of bringing together man and nature into a harmonious unity. He aims to inspire people and encourages them to talk about their successes. With the enchanting cherry blossoms adorning the work, he perfectly underlines his message of love and togetherness.

At the age of six, the Nigerian artist Kelani Fatai discovered his passion for drawing. Already by the age of 19, he had completed a five-year apprenticeship with a street artist. From 2014, he continued his art studies at the prestigious Yaba College of Technology in Yaba, Lagos, successfully graduating in 2019 with a Higher National Diploma in painting as his major subject. Fatai draws inspiration from nature and his surroundings and uses these figuratively in his versatile, impressionistic and realistic artworks. His work is present in various respected institutions and private collections throughout the United States and the United Kingdom. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Nigeria and abroad. Kelani Fatai is highly regarded in both the local and international art scene.
